Dr. James began her clinical mental health career as a Registered Nurse on at UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital in 1985. She facilitated group and individual therapy treating clients with eating disorders, mood disorders, trauma, and behavioral issues. She received her Ph.D in Clinical Psychology in 1990 from California School of Professional Psychology.

Dr Cindy James is a trained modern psychoanalyst, and uses psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy including dialectical behavioral therapy, group therapy and eye movement desensitization therapy techniques in her practice.

She has a special interest in integrating group and individual therapy for patients that are interested in both experiences. Dr Cindy James believes that the combination of individual and group therapy is a powerful tool for change.

When working with adolescents and young adults or older patients, Dr Cindy James will meet with parents or other family members to understand the best approach to addressing eating disorders, substance abuse, anxiety and depression.

Dr Cindy James uses a non-judgmental, empowering and individualized approach.  

The goal is to form a collaborative treatment plan based on each patient’s individual needs.
