Background

Dr Cindy James began her clinical mental health career as a Registered Nurse at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital in 1985. She facilitated group and individual therapy treating clients with eating disorders, social anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, and behavioral issues.  

Dr Cindy James received her Ph.D in Clinical Psychology 1990 from California School of Professional Psychology.

  • Awarded Post Doctoral Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital (1991)

  • Served as Assistant Director of the UCLA Eating Disorder Program Intensive Out Patient Program

  • Clinical Adjunct Professor: supervision in training program for Psychologists  and Medical fellows in treatment of Eating Disorders.

Since moving east to Connecticut 20 years ago, Dr Cindy James has continued her interest treating eating disorders and other mental health disorders in her private practice.


Methodology and Training

Dr. Cindy James has had intensive training and practice in Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Dialectical behavioral therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

She trained at UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital, where she supervised group therapists as a clinical professor. She participated in 20 years of ongoing group consultation in Modern Analytic/Psychodynamic group therapy with Dr. Lawrence Epstein of the White Institute of Psychoanalysis in New York City.

Cindy is EMDRIA Certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), received Oct 2020.
